Keeping Your House Safe

by admin on July 13, 2010

Your home is not only probably the most expensive thing you own, it’s also where you keep most, if not all, of the other things you own. So saying that it’s a good idea to get home insurance is almost a useless statement. Of course nobody likes to think about bad things happening to things we own and cherish, but we have to be prepared in case the worse happens.

There are two major types of home insurance: building insurance and content insurance. Like the name states, building insurance covers you in case something happens to the building itself. This also covers permanent parts of the building, like the doors and windows. Content insurance, on the other hand, covers the possessions and objects you keep inside the house. This will most likely not go as far as to cover the car in the garage or any very expensive luxury item – you will need separate insurance for those – but it will cover furniture, appliances and decorative items.

There is a chance that you may get everything covered in the same policy. This will probably turn out cheaper for you, but it may also mean that the coverage of each type is slightly reduced.
