The 12th of November 2011 marks the day on which Pac-Man Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez will meet each other in the ring at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the WBO Welterweight Boxing Championship. Whilst waiting for this fight to take place, why not take a look at boxer earnings.
Manny Pacquiao – Pac-Man – was actually on the Forbes list of highest earning men in 2009, with a net worth of around $40 million. Floyd Mayweather is said to be by far the highest earning boxer, with a net worth of around $60 million. The largest part of Mayweather’s earnings actually come from boxing itself, unlike many other boxers who earn a large proportion of their wages by being involved in advertisements for a variety of other products.
However, until a boxer becomes really famous, they generally do not earn large amounts of money, generally between $1,500 and $5,000 per match. Those boxers who are not known at all and box in amateur leagues in the hope of being discovered can at times makes as little as a few hundred dollars. It is hence unsurprising that many boxers who have not found fame and fortune yet engage in illegal back street boxing matches to top up their earnings.
It is clear that there is really no such thing as an average boxer’s salary, and that it depends in the main on how famous you are and how famous your opponent is. This is generally also reflected in where your boxing match takes place – for a fight to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, it needs to be a fight that people will want to watch and not a bout between two unknown fighters that nobody has ever heard off, of course.
Considering these facts, how easy is it for a boxer to take a loan? Share your comments on this subject please. In the mean time enjoy Pacquiao vs Marquez live from MGM Grand!
